Problem: digital-companion-core is a TypeScript library for AI personas that remember conversations, have moods and evolve over time. But a persona couldn't be fully saved and restored: part of the state was lost, dates came back as strings, and repeated import duplicated memories.
Before: export()/import() only partially transferred state. Bad data could leave a persona half-restored. withMood() ignored the mood passed to it.
What we built: A versioned SoulSnapshot format that carries the full persona state, and a two-phase import: first full validation, then state change. Plus tests, an example and documentation.
Result: The pull request passed code review by the maintainer (AI Systems Architect, founder of Contentsaurus) and was merged into main. CI is green on Node 16, 18 and 20.
